Description
The Golden Rule, a beloved and iconic pub in Ambleside, holds a special place in my heart as my favourite pub and a connection to my family roots in this beautiful Lake District town. For me, it feels like a spiritual home, encapsulating the charm and heritage of Ambleside.
Located on Smithy Brow, just off the busy streets and at the foot of ‘The Struggle,’ the steep road leading to Kirkstone Pass, this historic Grade II listed pub dates back to 1683. It offers a peaceful retreat from the crowds of tourists exploring Ambleside and the nearby Lake Windermere. With its cozy interiors and a back garden that provides breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and mountains, it’s a place where you can truly soak in the beauty of the Lake District.
The Golden Rule’s timeless atmosphere reflects the essence of Ambleside, a town rich in history, nestled among some of the Lake District’s most stunning landscapes. From the vibrant summer floral displays at the front to the tranquil garden views, this pub is a perfect spot to experience the charm and serenity that Ambleside has to offer.
