Our images of Falling Foss aim to capture some of this ambience and tranquillity along with some of the area’s natural beauty. The 67ft waterfall is located in the heart of Little Beck Wood, along a wooded valley route that is routinely used by long distance coast to coast walkers among others.
As one of North Yorkshire’s more frequently visited natural features, Falling Foss has a place in the hearts and minds of both tourists and residents in the area. This is a passion that we share at the North Yorkshire Gallery, and our landscape photographer Laurie Smithies has visited the area extensively in order to produce images that truly reflect the unique qualities at Falling Foss.
Falling Foss: Iconic Local Landmark
The route to Falling Foss will take you on a circular woodland path that takes you not just to the waterfall itself but to other sites and other views, including the cave once habited by The Hermit of Falling Foss. This rough cut boulder was once home to an almost legendary local figure and testament to this can be found by the more than 200 year old graffiti cut into the rock.
