Snow Covered Whitby Harbour

Winter is a wonderful time of year in Whitby, Yorkshire—especially when we get snow! We got our first significant snowfall in almost a decade back in 2018, and it was a sight to behold. The iconic whalebones were blanketed with snow and the historic Whitby Abbey looked majestic on its cliff behind it. I was lucky enough to be there that morning to capture this amazing photo of nature’s beauty at its finest of a snow covered Whitby harbour.
The snowfall was brought about by what is known as the “Beast from the East”—a powerful weather system that moves across Europe from the east side of Russia and Siberia. It usually brings colder temperatures and a lot of snow—and 2018 was no exception! The wind blew fresh powder onto all of our favourite spots, including Whitby’s iconic whalebones, 199 steps and swing bridge.
